![]() ![]() She’s a really talented photographer and an incredible painter, but also an illustrator. I’ve been collecting her work for a long time. I’ve been friends with Tasya for probably the longest. ![]() I reached out to Tasya van Ree, Natalie Bergman and Diana Garcia because I deeply admire what they do individually and I think that they’re really unique and creative and innovative voices in art, and all for different reasons. That’s gonna be the greatest tool moving forward, to really recognize the whole divide and conquer tactic that’s being used against everybody right now.īaltin: One of the things that is cool is you are doing this show with three women, which ties in with female empowerment, even if that was not your intention at all.īoyd: It’s funny that you say that because I don’t think that even occurred to me (laughs). It’s funny and it’s poignant, but she’s talking to them, she’s reaching out to people and being like, “Look, the left preaching to the left and the right preaching to the right is only causing a larger divide.” So I really admire the sheer will to reach out to really uncomfortable places and start the dialogue. In her new show she’s going to these deep red states and talking to people. I’m a fan of Sarah Silverman, I think she’s really funny and really insightful. What’s wild is seeing some unlikely sources reaching out in ways you wouldn’t expect. It’s more and more challenging because that fatigue starts to set in and you start to watch a lot of these discussions politically get ridiculous, like the things we’re starting to argue about. And it seems like this is the point they count on the fatigue setting in.īrandon Boyd: We have to push harder than even before at this point. Steve Baltin: We were just talking about the political climate. As Boyd got ready for “Optimystic” this weekend, we spoke about the political climate, the mix of music and visual art and how it is important in both worlds to surround yourself with people who make you look cooler. The two-day event, Saturday, 12- 8, and Sunday, 12- 5, will be held at West Hollywood’s 101/Exhibit Gallery at 668 La Peer. ![]()
